If you were interested in fishing then we would recommend Grand Slam Charters, as they are a great outfit. Captain Kester Herbert manages and captain’s two boats for English owner Mark Simmonds. He is very knowledgeable as well as being warm and patient, he really looks after his clients and helps get the best out of you without being patronising, great for beginners or experts. Flexibility is really the key with Grand Slam and they can do everything from expert sport fishing to fun days out. Kester has recently won a very prestigious international offshore tournament and has regular groups who come back again and again to Tobago to fish with him. As well as his offshore expertise, Kester is widely recognised as the top specialist in Tobago for inshore, river, mud flats and fly-fishing.

Offshore fishing:

October – April marlin, sailfish, Wahoo, tuna and Dora do.
May – September barracuda, kingfish, bonito, and snapper.

Tobago waters have a variety of sharks including nurse, black tips and bull sharks. A wide range of tackle is provided including Star and Penn International rods and reels.

Inshore fishing: Every year some customers achieve the Holy Grail in inshore fishing - a grand slam consisting of bonefish, permit and tarpon all in the same day. Grand Slam run 4 hour excursions on their 18 foot boat & provide spinning tackle and live bait however if you want to include fly fishing you will have to bring your own tackle. Soft drinks are included and transport and entrance to Pigeon Point can be arranged at cost price. They will want to get you out either early morning or late afternoon/early evening for the best of the tarpon fishing. Bonefish and permit trips will depend on the time of the tides. The price is US $ 170 – for one or two people.

Fun days out - Island Tour / Little Tobago: This is 7-hour boat excursion around Tobago’s coastline with snorkelling at Englishman’s bay and a visit to Little Tobago Island – an offshore bird sanctuary. The rods will come out from Speyside to hopefully catch you a fish supper. Included are snorkels, masks, beer, rum, sandwiches and fresh fruit. Pick up from the villa and entrance fee to Pigeon Point are included and Grand Slam has an excellent sound system so bring CD”s. The minimum charter is 6 people and the price is US $ 550, additional people up to a maximum of 10 are US $80 each.

Sunset Trip: Departing on Grand Slam at 4pm and returning at 6.30pm. It includes snorkelling at Arnos Vale and then to the Nylon Pool to relax, swim and enjoy the sunset. It includes snorkels, masks, cold beer or rum & coke and soft drinks as well as pick-up from the villa and entrance fee to Pigeon Point. The minimum charter 5 people and the price is US $430, additional people up to 10 are US $70 each.

Coastal Trip: Departing on Grand Slam at 10am and return 4pm. Excursion to Nylon Pool Snorkelling at Mount Irvine. Down the coast to Big Bay for swimming, snorkelling and a beach barbecue. Includes – snorkels, masks, soft drinks, beers, rum and a barbecue - Pick-up from the villa and entrance to Pigeon Point. They can put the rods aboard if required. Minimum charter 6 people – max 10. Price – US $430 - additional people US $ 70.
